DIRECTOR COMMERCIAL OPERATIONS AND ANALYTICS

 

 

The Director, Commercial Operations and Analytics reports to the Vice President, Commercial Operations. This position will be responsible for leading and executing field support operations, commercial reporting and analyses, providing analytical support for marketing and sales, and serving as a partner to the field sales teams to support reporting, data collection and analytical needs. 

This role will have broad exposure across both Commercial leadership and Executive leadership teams, providing regular business updates, owning KPI dashboards and presenting analyses.  It is a hands-on job.  Close collaboration with the heads of sales, marketing, and market access is essential.

 

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Strategy.  Lead the commercial operations and analytics function and be a trusted partner to the sales and marketing teams to drive business together. 

  • Data Management. Own and manage the commercial data environment, data acquisition, and management leveraging vendors and developing internal processes to optimize data assets.

  • Reporting. Production, ongoing refinement, and updates to: KPI dashboards, business report presentations, and initiating/responding to ad-hoc analysis requests to support management decision making. Produce management timely, accurate monthly, quarterly and ad hoc reports, analytics, insights individually and with support from vendor partners

  • Insights and Analytics. Support commercial leadership and internal operations by providing actionable insights.  Turn data into information, create visualizations and inform decision making with insights.  Collaborate with market research, commercial leaders, and field teams to inform analyses.

  • Commercial Effectiveness.  Own and drive ongoing process improvements incorporating feedback and understanding business needs.  Manage, design, and ensure effectiveness of commercial systems in collaboration with IT and vendor partners. 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage reporting on commercial KPIs and produce monthly updates for commercial leadership and executive team review

  • Work closely with Field Sales and Marketing leadership in defining and reporting standard KPI’s for field-based roles. 

  • Collaborate with head of sales to develop optimal sales strategy including field performance objectives, targeting, and tactics.

  • Provide support to the field through ad-hoc analyses that may be needed to support or help pull through brand and sales strategies. 

  • Lead field force sizing, alignment and effectiveness efforts working closely with the relevant functional leaders 

  • Lead our work with key vendor partners responsible for managing the commercial date platform and business intelligence tools.  Support development, maintenance and enhancement of Business Intelligence platforms and corresponding BI reporting

  • Develop data quality and data management processes across all Commercial teams as the business evolves

  • Collaborate with IT to ensure a high level of operational effectiveness for systems, tools, and data access

  • Conduct End User training for field users and provides trouble-shooting support for reports and CRM as needed 

  • Maintain the field roster and alignment files

  • Ad hoc projects and leadership of new initiatives as our business grows

 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Business, Finance or related discipline 

  • Pharmaceutical Industry knowledge and experience.  Sales training, product management, sales management, market access, and/or field sales experience highly desirable

  • Demonstrated vendor management experience

  • Highly motivated self-starter who is comfortable building relationships with stakeholders

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills 

  • Excellent project management skills with demonstrated ability to lead multiple projects and priorities 

  • Demonstrated experience in analytics, database design & BI tools, sales operations or field sales role preferably in pharmaceutical or biotechnology industries 

  • Fluency with Tableau or other BI Applications 

  • Experience working with CRM data systems like Salesforce, Veeva, etc. 

  • Strong process design and improvement abilities

  • Knowledge of database systems as well as data modelling concepts and their application towards BI efforts

  • Advanced to expert level Excel skills
